Annual golf tournament
On 19 March 2010 the annual Lions Club Sliema sponsored golf tournament took place at the Royal Malta Golf Club at Marsa. Since 2009 this event is being held in memory of Lion Alex Mangion who was also a Captain of the RMGC. The Sliema Lions Club trophy has been superseded by the Alex Mangion Memorial Shield. The Funds raised at this event are matched by a donation from Lions Club Sliema and the total proceeds are donated to charity that is chosen alternatively by the RMGC or the Lions Club Sliema. This year the choice was RMGC’s and the recipient charity will be the Hospice Movement.
In all 80 members, ladies and gentlemen participated in the event. The winner of the ladies section was Ms. Marie Iinuma, while the overall winner and the winner of the Alex Mangion Memorial shield was Mr. Malcolm Hill. Lions Club Sliema was represented at the prize awarding ceremony by its president Lion Alphonse L. MacDonald, the First Vice-President Alfred Micallef Attard and Treasurer Joseph Messina. The Zone chairman Lion Tom Restall also attended.
