Visiting Zejtun for a cultural outing..
Pawlu, the learned young sacristan will take us around the parish church dedicated to St Catherine of Alexandria, built to the design of Lorenzo Gafa’ between 1692-1720. It is an imposing edifice both on the inside and outside. We will see the High Altar designed by Michele Cachia and altar pieces painted by other renowned artists including Lorenzo Zahra. We will also visit the crypt.
Adjoining the church is its museum,where we will be shown around by Keith Sciberras, we will see other works of art including the martyrdom of St Catherine, considered to be “a most interesting and fascinating example of the Caravaggist altar paintings in Malta”
Programme: Meeting at the Church Parvis 10.15am.
Participation fee of Euro 5 per person
Followed by lunch at Ferretti, Bizebbugia for Euro 25 per person ( for those who wish to stay).
